Today I made a trip to Harrisburg because I had an errand to run. I get there I decide to kill time by taking a drive past the CAT base. So I did. I noticed a bus I never recognized before. Then I get closer to realize it was a NABI. The number. 9603. Then I was thinking it may be an ex AC Transit NABI. But I didnt 100% think it was. Then I peaked between 2404 and an Eldorado and the front was the same as on SEPTAs. Then I also saw 9604 which is another NABI 416. And not too long after. I saw 2 NABIs in SEPTA colors inbetween the 2 bus barns. So I realize. CAT purchased at least 4 ex SEPTA NABIs. I dont know which NABIs went to Harrisburg but to my understanding they will be numbered 9601-9604. So those of you who will miss the NABIs. You can always feel free to make a trip to Harrisburg to see them for yourself.

I do not know for sure. Maybe 2 years or more. I do somewhat suspect that CAT may be doing like Rabbit Transit and mainly purchasing used equipment. And hopefully. That is not the case. I am requesting off for my birthday on May 3rd so I may go to Harrisburg to get a chance to ride one of these NABIs to see if they are still exactly the same inside as they were with SEPTA. The passenger seats as well as wall colors and windows will definetely be the same but who knows what will happen with the headsigns. Either they will be reprogrammed to CAT Route and destinations. Or get replaced with the orange LED headsigns like Rabbit Transit does. But I hope this isnt a new trend with CAT.

Is there an air condition on the roof? If so, they could be Ex SEPTA, and you can notice that as well since the have non opening windows and horizontal lineup brake lights in the rear.

The AC is mounted on the roof and the windows definetely do not open. Plus 2 NABIs sitting in the base still have not been repainted to CAT colors and still wearing SEPTA colors so thats another sign that those buses are ex SEPTA NABIs. So all 4 of CATs NABIs are ex SEPTA NABIs. I didnt think CAT was going to get used buses. I wonder if RRTA would ever purchase ex SEPTA buses. They never yet purchased used equipment. CAT before the NABIs purchased only used motorcoaches for the commuter services. And Rabbit Transit. They have purchased used equipment for both local service and Rabbit Express service. But other then the ex SEPTA Neos Rabbit mainly purchases used Gilligs. CAT. I was leaning more towards used Gilligs if they ever bought used equipment. Not ex SEPTA NABIs. But since Philly is 100 miles away from Harrisburg that makes sense to do.

CAT just became a tad more interesting. Maybe they are getting a few of the NABIs to replace the RTSs. It would be interesting, though, to see what a NABI would look like in CAT's color.

The NABIs in CATs color look nice. However to me it somewhat feels like the buses wearing blue wraps since Im only used to white background NABIs. SEPTA, Bmore MTA and DART. But they do look nice with the blue background. As far as the RTSs. I saw at least 3 of them sitting by the dead wall. So either CAT is intentionally replacing the RTSs with ex SEPTA NABIs or they could not pass inspection and CAT was in despirate need for replacements. Since it takes a new bus order a year from the ordering date until the delivery starts. And with this bad economy I suspect CAT may have been unable to afford new buses and decided to get used buses to replace some of the RTSs. I know so far 9603 and 9604 are now blue. 9601 and 9602. Either they were stored in the barns. Or they were the 2 sitting inbetween still in SEPTA color. I wont find out until May 3. (If I can have off that day)

I can definitely confirm that they are indeed ex-SEPTA NABIs...I know the person from CAT who purchased them...they were purchased around four months ago...they were just put in service this week because CAT's maintenance department could only work on them as time permitted.

I wonder if Krapf would pick up some of Ex. SEPTA's NABI since they have acquired used Gilligs from Denver.

Do you/are you able to find out more info, such as how many they have, new fleet numbers, and perhaps the old numbers? Did they rehab them before putting them in service (I hope so!)?

This is surely intriguing. FINALLY I have a good reason to take the Keystone line! I haven't ridden that line since it was re-electrified.
